What the symptoms are telling you
Work out what has actually failed before you order. We would rather talk you out of a part you do not need than sell you the wrong one.
Blower runs but the air is cold
One or more element stages are not energising. That is either a burned-open element, a failed sequencer, or a tripped limit switch.
Do this: Check each stage individually — this is the classic element-versus-sequencer question.
Heat is weak but present
One stage of a multi-stage heat kit has opened. The remaining stages still fire, so the furnace runs constantly and never satisfies the thermostat.
Do this: Test each element separately; a single open stage is easy to miss.
Breaker trips shortly after heat starts
A shorted element, or all stages energising at once because the sequencer has failed closed.
Do this: Do not keep resetting the breaker. Test resistance to ground on each element.
Furnace overheats and cycles on the limit
Restricted airflow rather than the element itself, though repeated overheating is what kills elements early.
Do this: Change the filter and check the blower before ordering parts.

Furnace questions
Is it the element or the sequencer?
This is the most common wrong order we prevent. A sequencer is a timing relay that staggers each heat stage a few seconds apart so the furnace does not pull 30–50 amps in one inrush. If no stage at all energises, suspect the sequencer or the control board. If some stages heat and others do not, the dead stages are almost certainly burned-open elements. Can I replace one element in a multi-stage kit?
Yes, individual stages can be replaced. But if the furnace is more than about ten years old and several stages have similar run hours, replacing the whole kit avoids a repeat service call in the same season.
What information do you need to match a furnace element?
The furnace model number from the cabinet rating plate, and the heat kit model if it is a separate label. A photo of both plates is the fastest route. The kit rating in kW and the supply voltage are what determine the match.
Why do the elements keep failing?
Repeat failures almost always trace back to airflow, not the elements. A dirty filter, a collapsed duct or a weak blower lets heat build in the cabinet and cooks the coil. Fix the airflow or the new elements will follow the old ones.
