What is a BAYHTR number?
It is Trane's designation for a heat kit assembly. The kit has its own label separate from the air handler's rating plate, and that BAYHTR designation is the single most useful piece of information for matching your element correctly.
Is American Standard the same as Trane?
Same manufacturer, different badge. Components cross over extensively between the two, so an element matched to a Trane specification will generally suit the equivalent American Standard unit.
My Trane strips only matter in winter. How do I test them off-season?
Switch the thermostat to emergency heat, which runs the strips with the compressor locked out. Better to find a dead strip in October than during a January cold snap, testing in the shoulder season is worth the ten minutes.
